| Marriage- Starr, Vicki-Conley, James Starr/Conley Vows Exchanged May 21 in Chanute
Vicki S. Starr and James C. Conley were united in marriage on Saturday, May 21, 1988, at the Church of the Nazarene in Chanute. Pastor Park Burkhart of the Church of the Nazarene, and Pastor Joe Wedan of Westview Baptist Church, officiated the double-ring ceremony.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Turner, Chanute, and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph M. Conley, Delia.
Candles used by Jim and Vicki to light their Unity Candle were lit by their parents. They are symbolic of the life received from their parents, which they now join together as one.
Music was provided by Wynona Burkhart, Chanute, who accompanied Diane Mitchell, Springfield, Mo. and Casey Diver, Coffeyville, as they sang “Household of Faith” and “Only God Could Love You More.”
The bride wore a gown which featured a “V” neck with a sheer illusion net yoke and stand-up collar. Schiffli embroidery, sequins and simulated pearls traced the outline of the collar and yoke. The leg-o-mutton sleeves were trimmed with a bow above the elbow. Embroidery trimmed the wrist of the sleeve. The long, satin dress featured a chapel length train. The veil made of white silk and pearl flowers in a ringlet, with a pouf veil was made by the groom’s mother.
Jeremi Wonch, Olathe, was matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Larson, Chanute, and Jan Stephens, Olathe. Their dresses were formal length satin in a delicate old rose, featuring a deep, rounded neck and full, short sleeves. The skirts ended in deep ruffles. Each carried a long-stemmed red rose.
Bill Conley, Delia, brother of the groom, was best man. Groomsmen were Dave Atherton, Shawnee Mission, and Larry Horton, Chanute. They wore the traditional black tuxedos with pink shirts and burgundy ties and cumberbunds.
Schuyler L. Martinek, Rossville, nephew of the groom, was ring bearer. He wore a black, long-tail tux, like that of the groom.
Heaven Starr, niece of the bride, was flower girl. She wore a white eyelet dress with a pink sash.
Candle lighters, nieces of the bride, were Jamie Scarlett, Independence, and Loreli Starr, Chanute.
Ushers were David Starr, Chanute, brother of the bride, Marty Dyer, Ottawa, and Kerry Scott, Parsons.
Vanessa Cook attended the guest book. Reception servers were Barbara Spradley, Gina Arbuckle, Pam Ferguson and Ellen Rouse. Gift attendants were Karen Almond, Rajeana Dyer, Ottawa, and Kristy Whaley.
Gary Starr, the bride’s brother, videotaped the wedding ceremony.
Grandparents of the bride attending the ceremony were Bertha Weeks, Chanute, Mary Brubaker, Iola, Myrl DuPuis, Snohomish, Wash., and Earl Turner, Lamar, Mo. The groom’s grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. James L. Conley and Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Timmons, all of Delia.
Mrs. Conley is a 1984 graduate of Chanute High School and a 1988 graduate of Mid-America Nazarene College, Olathe, with a degree in marketing and management.
Mr. Conley is a 1979 graduate of Rossville High School and a 1983 graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture/business. He is assistant vice-president and branch manager of Farm Credit Services, in Parsons.
