| Obituary- Cless, Sarah Mrs. Cless Laid to Rest Saturday
The funeral of Mrs. M.L. Cless was held last Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Presbyterian church, the services conducted by the Rev. A.J. Crawford, who was assisted by the Rev. F.H. Bentley, of the Christian church.
The large circle of friends made in her forty-three years residence here was largely represented in the sorrowing congregation that gathered at the church Saturday to pay their last respects to the departed friend. A veritable bower of floral offerings from neighbors of the family, the Presbyterian aid society and friends encompassed the casket.
Grandma passed away peacefully as she was making her way through the hallway of her home, sinking to her knees gently and resting in that position when her husband arrived home from town last Thursday evening about 5 p.m. Death was due to heart failure. The physician's examination determined she had passed away some little time before being found.
Mrs. Cless was born March 2, 1851, in Cumberland County, Pa., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Shearer, and was 66 years, 10 months and 22 days old at her decease.
At the age of 4 years her parents moved to Illinois near the town of Lena. She was united in marriage to M.L. Cless Jan. 14, 1869 at Lena, Ill., and they remained there until 1876, when they came to Rossville. The first year they lived on the farm now occupied by Fred Heiland, then lived four years on the Mulvane ranch. They next moved to the farm now owned by John Gutshall, where they remained five years. From there they went to the Shearer farm southeast of Rossville now owned by Morris Bond where they remained until 1892, when the family moved to the present home in Rossville.
The surviving members of the family are the husband and six sons, Will Cless, of Denver, Colo, Charles E., Abner A., J. Water, and Clinton C., of Rossville; and Ralph Cless, of Pueblo, Colol.
Interment was made in the Rossville cemetery. |
