  Documents » Slide Show		Anniversary- Hartzell, David and Matilda 1 CELEBRATE FIFTY-EIGHTH WEDDING ANNIVERSARY Mr. and Mrs. David Hartzell were given a surprise Tuesday evening by their children and grand children who went in, to help them celebrate their fifty-eighth wedding anniversary. Ice cream and cake and coffee were served. Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell were married at Rossville, February 21, 1875 by the Methodist minister of Rossville. Mr. Hartzell came to Rossville in 1868, and in 1872 opened a drug store and continued in that business until 1927 when he retired on account of ill health. Mrs. Hartzell who before her marriage was Miss Matilda Boots came from Penn Yan, New York, in 1872, with her father, the late B. F. Boots and her brother M. J. Boots. They are the parents of five children, all of whom are living. Ernest D. Hartzell, L. P. Hartzell of Rossville; Mrs. Edna Salley of Silver Lake; Frank D. Hartzell of Chillicothe, Ill., and Melvin B. Hartzell of Seattle, Washington. There are twenty-two grand children and five great grand children. The Reporter desires to express the sentiment of Rossville and community in extending heartiest congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell upon the completion of their fifty-eight years of married life. “Daddy and Grandma” Hartzell are still enjoying an active life and comparatively good health.
  		Anniversary- Hartzell, David and Matilda 2 Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hartzell of Chillicothe, Illinois, arrived in Rossville this (Thursday) morning to attend the 60th wedding anniversary dinner of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hartzell given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E.D. Hartzell.
  		Anniversary- Hartzell, David and Matilda 3 Married 61 Years Mr. and Mrs. David Hartzell will observe the 61st anniversary of their wedding Friday of this week February 21. Both are sick and confined to their house at present, but slowly improving. Their many friends extend congratulations on this eventful anniversary.

Hartzell of Myrtle Point, Oregon celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary with a surprise pot luck dinner brought in my their neighbors to add to what their daughter, Mrs. Marlin Evans, had slyly prepared while her parents were up town.
  		Anniversary- Hartzell, Ernest and Mary 2 Mr. & Mrs. E. D. Hartzell honored at reception held in Oregon Mr. and Mrs E. D. Hartzell of Myrtle Point, Oregon, were honored Sunday afternoon, December 30, at a reception held in the Methodist Church there on the occasion of their 60th wedding anniversary. They were married in Topeka on December 30, 1896, by the Rev. J. G. Maser, Baptist pastor. Both Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell are 81 years of age. They went to Myrtle Point in 1946, Mr. Hartzell serving several years as janitor for an elementary school there. He is now retired. Mr. Hartzell was a resident of Rossville for 70 years and spent some time as a janitor in the old “hand days.” Mr. and Mrs. Hartzell are the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are living. They are: O. B. Hartzell of Topeka, Mrs. Marlin Evans of Myrtle Point, Allyn Hartzell of Topeka, Mrs. John Shenk, China Lake, Calif., Mrs. Estel Bailey, Littleton, Colo., Mrs. Wayne Light, Mayer, Ariz., and Clyde Hartzell of Ridgecrest, Calif. Mr. Hartzell’s parents, the late David and Mrs. Hartzell, were the parents of five children, all of whom are living. Mr. Hartzell passed away at the age of 91 and Mrs. Hartzell lived to the age of 101. More than 85 friends and relatives were present at the reception to congratulate, extend greetings and well wishes to these venerable pioneers, among them being Mr. Hartzell’s brother and sister-in-law.   Obituary- Hartzell, Ernest Findagrave.com information Ernest David (Ernie) Hartzell (1875-1960), married in 1896 to Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Starkey (1874-1960). Mollie came to Rossville, KS, at age 9 to live with an Aunt, Mrs. Jane Primley. Ernest David was born on 6 Dec 1875, in Rossville, KS. His father, an early arrival to Rossville, owned a pharmacy. Ernest David died on 2 Jan 1960 in Myrtle Point, Oregon. He was "Engaged in farming, trucking (when dray was the term used), mercantile, and garage business at various times during his life. They moved to Myrtle Point in 1946 to live near their oldest daughter (Gladys) and family." Gladys Irene Hartzell Evans (1899-1966) and her husband, Marlin Evans (1899-1953) are also in Norway Cemetery. Children: 1.Orville Burnette (1898-1965), 2.
