Barbara Gene (Morris) Brown and Dennis Ray Hutchinson, both from Circleville, were united in marriage on Sunday, May 28, 2000 at the United Methodist Church in Circleville. Dr. Jerry Hamden of Shawnee and Rev. Steve Shewmake of Circleville performed the ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of the late George T. and Edith Cole Morris of Circleville. The groom is the son of Elsie Rising Hutchinson of Holton and the late Leo Bill Hutchinson. The attendants were the bride and groom’s grown children, Luke Cole Brown of Hosington, Georgia N. Flood of Newton, Douglas Spencer Brown of Las Vegas, Nev., Denise Hutchinson Moore of Mayetta and Douglas Ray Hutchinson of Overland Park.
Nathan and Megan Brown, grandchildren of the bride, were the candlelighters. Ushers were Tim Morris, brother of the bride; Don Armstrong, brother-in-law of the groom; and Jeremy Bain, nephew of the bride.
Dr. Hamden invited siblings of Dennis and Barbara to come forward to be part of a family vow. Marsha Pappen and Tim Morris, siblings of Barbara, and Data Armstrong, sister of Dennis, were asked to participate in this portion of the ceremony.
Lauren and Spencer Brown read scripture 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 and Robby and Ryan Flood presented a reading “Love Is...” Nathan Brown played a piano solo, “Pachabel’s Canon in D.” Mendy Armstrong, niece of the groom, sang a solo, “From This Moment,” and Kerri Lynne Brown, daughter-in-law of the bride, played “Thanks Be To God,” by Handel as the processional, and “Wedding March,” by Mendelssohn, as the recessional.
Church hosts and hostesses were David and Evelyn Allen, Orlan and Wilma Gibson, Mildred Cochran, Richard and Thersa Wade, and Kenneth Wykert.
A reception and barbecue were held at the groom’s farm west off Circleville. Gary Bell and Friends, musicians, played and a catered dinner was served to friends of the family. The following week, on June 3 another reception was held at the farm.
The bride and groom are both graduates of Circleville High School. Barbara attended Baker University and graduated from Washburn University and Emporia State University. She is retired from classroom teaching and being a librarian and administrator in various schools in Kansas. Barbara taught in Holton USD 336, Goff, Muscotah, and Hoyt USD 337. Dennis owns and operates Hutchinson Distributing Co. and has livestock.
After a wedding trip to Colorado, the couple is at home in Circleville.
