Everett L. “Corky” Bird, 65, formerly of Girard, died Wednes¬day, October 22, 1997, at a Hous¬ton, Tex. hospital.
Mr. Bird worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Topeka and later was a property manager in Seattle until he retired in April 1996. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War.
He was born April 15, 1932, in Fort Scott, the son of Charles Wheeler and Laura Grace Hardesty Bird. He was reared at Girard and attended Girard schools.
Mr. Bird was a member of the Christian Church.
He was married to Wanda G. Leverich September 9, 1952, in Astoria, Ore. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Robert A. Bird, Topeka, and Jack V. Bird, Emmett; a sister, Edith Pridgen, Canyon Lake,Tex.; one granddaughter; and one great- granddaughter.
Relatives and friends met Fri¬day evening at Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. His ser¬vice was at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Interment was in the Girard Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia Society of America and sent in care of the funeral home.
