Vernon J. Cress, 48, Mayetta, died Tuesday, February 9, 1988, at a Topeka hospital. He had cancer.
Mr. Cress was a Topeka Capital-Journal carrier. His route was between Topeka and Morrowville.
He was an Army veteran, having served in a Military Police detachment.
He was born July 31, 1939, at Horton, the son of Joe and Geneva Christ Cress. He spent most of his life in the Mayetta community.
Mr. Cress was a member of Mayetta Community Church and the Bible Study group at the church.
Survivors include his father, Joe Cress, Mayetta; and two brothers, his twin, Verlon Cress, Delia, and Donald Cress, Kingman.
Services were held at Mayetta Community Church. Mercer Funeral Home in Holton was in charge of arrangements. Memorial conŽtributions may be made to Mayetta Community Church or to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Kansas State Bank, Holton, 66436.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Mayetta Community Church. Burial will be in Horton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 7 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to MayŽetta Community Church or to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of Kansas State Bank, Holton, 66436. Mercer Funeral Home in HolŽton is in charge of arrangements.
