| Obituary- Bottom, Velma Velma Bottom
Mrs. Velma Joan Bottom, 56, rural Soldier, died Thursday, September 1, 1988, at a Kansas City, Ks. medical center where she was admitted after she suffered severe burns in a pro-pane explosion July 28, 1988, at her home one and one-half miles west of Soldier.
Authorities said she suffered burns over 90% of her body. She was showering when propane from a leak just outside the home's foundation seeped into the basement and ig¬nited when a sump pump started.
She was treated at an Onaga hospi-tal before she was transferred to the medical center in Kansas City.
Mrs. Bottom was a farm wife.
She was born April 13, 1932, in Jewell County, the daughter of Leo and Grace Schoen Schreiber. She liv-ed in the Soldier area most of her life.
Mrs. Bottom was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, both in Soldier, and Ladies Auxiliary to Holton Memorial Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1367 at Holton.
She was married to Cecil Bottom June 4, 1950, at Netawaka. He sur-vives.
Other survivors include a daugh¬ter, Karla Peek, Soldier; a son, Terry Bottom, Soldier; a sister, Wilma Duchesneau, Soldier; a brother, Lawrence Schreiber, Soldier; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were at 11 a.m. Saturday in Soldier Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Kansas Medical Center Burn Unit in care of Denison State Bank, Holton, 66436. Mercer Funeral Home of Holton was in charge of arrangements.
