| Marriage- Bowers, Ruth-Walker, John Bowers-Walker Marriage
Mr. and Mrs. John Louis Walker
Ruth Anne Bowers, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bowers of Delia, and John Louis Walker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Walker of Mayetta were united in marriage in the Sacred Heart Church in Delia, Saturday, January 26 at 10 o'clock in the morning.
The Rev. Geo. Seuferling read the double ring ceremony. Jerry and Gary Walker, cousins of the groom, were alter boys.
The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of nylon chiffon over bridal satin styled with a round neckline outlined with seed pearls, long tapered sleeves, basque bodice, with pleats at hips to form the full skirt. Her ten foot veil fell from a coronet of seed pearls. Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, a gift of the groom. She carried a heart shaped bouquet of red and white roses.
Matron of honor was Mrs. Christina Brennan, sister of the bride. Margaret Walker, sister of the groom and Cathleen Kennedy were bridesmaids. They wore identical dresses of red velvet with white bandeaus covered with white illusion held in place by a red velvet ribbon and they carried colonial bouquets of peppermint carnations.
Harold Walker served his cousin as best man. Johnny Bowers, brother of the bride, and John White were groomsmen.
Flower girls were Diane Bowers, sister of the bride, and Angela and Brenda Brennan, nieces of the bride. They wore identical red velvet jumpers with white illusion caught with a red velvet ribbon and tiny red heart.
Mark Taylor was ring bearer. Ushers were Glen Lewelling and Richard Locke.
Nuptial music was furnished by Linda Roth with Helen Fitzgerald as soloist.
Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Delia High School.
Mrs. Anne Herrington had charge of the guestbook and Helen Brock assisted Maryetta Eakin with the gifts.
Serving at the reception table were Ina Thompson, Catherine Bowers and Bernice Bowers, aunts of the bride.
A wedding dinner was prepared and served to the immediate families, with the bride and groom as honored guests, at the high school by friends.
For going away the bride wore a black and white checked suit. After a short wedding trip the couple is at home at 19 Stauffer 11, Lawrence, Kansas. |
