BOWERS-DOWDY WEDDING
The First United Methodist Church of Camden, Ark., was the setting for the 7:30 p.m. candlelight ceremony, Saturday, August 19, uniting Miss Rebecca Ann Dowdy and Mr. John Edward Bowers. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Felix Dowdy, Camden, and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bowers, Delia.
Dr. Clint Burleson performed the double-ring ceremony, and organist David Glaze provided the nuptial music. Dave Tangeman, of Seneca, gave a poetry reading.
The vows were exchanged before a large altar arrangement of white stock, pink and white gladioli, and white daisies. On either side were spiral brass candelabra holding white tapers and garlands of salal.
Miss Dowdy was escorted to the altar by her father. She wore an Alfred Angelo original gown of peau de soie. A panel of schiffli embroidery en-hanced the front of the gown from the rolled collar of the empire bodice to the hem of the A-line skirt. Bishop sleeves tapered to deep, buttoned cuffs of embroidery. Embroidery also extended to full length of the chapel train. A tiered veil of silk illusion fell to the waist from a lace appliqued cap. She carried a cascade of white and pink sweetheart roses and pearl-centered stephanotis.
Miss Cheryl Terai, Crosset, served as maid of honor, and Miss Diane Bowers, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. They wore identical floor length gowns of deep pink sparkle crepe with organza sleeves. The high waist was accented with embroidered Venice lace and pink velvet ribbon. Fresh summer flowers were used for their hair bands and bouquets.
The mother of the bride wore a floor length dress of yellow silk shantung trimmed with lace and organza. Mrs. Bowers chose a royal blue patterned silk accented with lace for her full length gown. Both mothers wore cymbidium orchids.
Mr. Bowers served his son as best man, and Larry Bowers was his brother’s groomsman. Ushers were Mr. Lloyd Mayer, New Orleans, Mr. Jerry McLaughlin, Girard, Pa., Mr. Ruskin Dowdy and Mr. Andrew Dowdy, brothers of the bride.
Guests were invited to fellowship hall following the ceremony for a reception honoring the couple. Garlands of salal arched the doorway. Shoes from the bride’s horse, which she had raised from a colt, were painted white, and centered the arch.
Mass arrangements of pink and white rosebuds arranged with white stock, centered the serving table. Pink tapers were in silver candelabras. The tiered wedding cake was accented with pink, and arranged with fresh flowers.
Miss Linda Little kept the bride’s book at a table covered with ruffled net and holding a bridal candle. Others serving the guests were Mrs. David Campbell and Mrs. Phillip Ittel. Mrs. John Walker and Mrs. James Brennan, sisters of the groom, served the groom’s cake.
Rice girls were Christine Bowers, Marilyn Brennan and Anne Walker, nieces of the groom.
Others assisting were Mrs. F. A. Gaston, Jr., Mrs. James Soffas, Mrs. Marcel Bourgoin, Mrs. F. N. Margrave, Miss Susan Margrave, and Miss Debbie Gaston.
Following a wedding trip to New Orleans, the couple is at home north of Wamego, Kansas.
