Following the Mass, the couple will host a dinner for their family a the Knights of Columbus Hall in Topeka. Kenneth Cowan and Mary Mattan were married February 12, 1943, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia, Ks. They are the parents of three daughters — Diane Elevier, Silver Lake, Vicki Wilson, Topeka, and Denise Denton, Silver Lake; and one son, Mark Cowan, Topeka. They have five grandchildren.
  		Anniversary- Cowan, Kenneth and Mary 2 Kenneth and Mary Cowan Kenneth and Mary Cowan, Silver Lake, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Silver Lake Senior Citizen Community Center, 404 Lake. Hosting the reception will be their children, Diane and Fred Elevier, and Denise and Tom Denton, Silver Lake; Vicki and Mike Wilson, Holton; and Mark and Jackie Cowan, Kansas City, Mo.; and their five grandchildren. Kenneth Cowan and Mary C. Mat tan were married Feb. 12, 1943, at Sacred Heart Church, Delia. Mr. Cowan retired from Santa Fe Railway general offices in 1983 after 42 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines.

• Documents		Obituary- Cowan, Kenneth 1 Kenneth Cowan SILVER LAKE — Kenneth V. Cowan, 79, Silver Lake, died Thursday, April 17, 2003, at his home. Mr. Cowan farmed in the Rossville area and worked in the data corrections department of Santa Fe Railway until retiring in 1983. He served in the Army in the 621 Port Co. 491 Port Battalion in the Pacific theater at New Guinea during World War II. He was born Oct. 23, 1923, in Delia, to Lloyd V. and Marie DeBacker Cowan. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941. Mr. Cowan was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville, Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 in Topeka, Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville and Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the Veterans of For¬eign Wars in Topeka. He also was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, the XYZ Club in Silver Lake, Senior Citizens of Silver Lake and past presi¬dent of the Silver Lake High School Alumni Asso¬ciation. He was a member of the Shawnee County Farm Bureau and Retired Santa Fe Oldtimers. He married Mary Mattan on Feb. 12, 1943, in Delia. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Mark V. Cowan, Kansas City, Mo.; three daughters, Diana Elevier and Denise Denton, both of Silver Lake, and Vicki Wilson, Holton; a sister, Betty Entsminger, Tope¬ka; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Rossville. Burial with military graveside honors conducted by a Fort Riley funeral detail will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery in St. Marys. Mr. Cowan will lie in state at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys after 3 p.m. Sunday. Visitation will be until 4:30 p.m., when a rosary will be recited. Memorial contributions may be made to Mid¬land Hospice or to the Silver Lake Senior Citizen Center and sent in care of the funeral home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys, 66536.

He was reared in the Delia com¬munity and graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1941. He served in the United States Army as a Sgt. Tech. in the 621 Port Company 491 Port Battalion in the Pacific Theatre, New Guinea. He farmed in the Ross¬ville area. He worked for Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years, retiring from the Data Corrections Department in 1983. He was a member of St. Stanis¬laus Catholic Church in Rossville, and Knights of Columbus Council No. 534 in Topeka. He was a mem¬ber of Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion in Rossville, Veterans, of Foreign Wars Post No. 01650 in Topeka. He belonged to the Laval Order of Moose and, since 1978, the XYZ Club in Silver Lake, and the Senior Citizens of Silver Lake where he delivered meals for the senior homebound.
