Nell Marie Cromwell, 100, Rossville, died Friday, February 23, 2001, at Rossville Valley Manor.
She was born June 22, 1900 at Valley Falls, the daughter of Louis A. and Myrtle Fletcher Newman.
She grew up in the Boyle community. In 1918 she went to work for Dr. Joe Cowherd in Kansas City, MO, caring for newborns and children under his care. Her work took her to St. Louis, Chicago, New York City, Philadelphia, Joplin and Ponca City to deliver children to doctors who were specialists in their field. She worked in Kansas City until 1944, when she returned to Valley Falls to help care for her ailing parents until they died. She then worked part-time in Kansas City, MO until August 1987, when she moved to Rossville to be near her ailing sister.
She was member of the First Christian Church, Valley Falls, Ladies Aid, and the Christian Women’s Fellowship and assisted in repairing and cleaning things to sell in the Thrift Shop. She was a charter member of the Valley Falls Historical Society.
She married William R. Cromwell on January 29, 1929 at the Country Club Christian Church, Independence, MO. He died on March 11, 1935 in Kansas City, MO. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Murl and Mildred Irvin, and three brothers, Lee Newman, Harry Newman, and Neil Newman.
The only immediate survivor is a brother, Ernest Newman, LaVergne, TN.
Mrs. Cromwell was cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Private inurnment was in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, MO.

Mrs. Cromwell was cremated. Memorial services will be private. Inurnment in Memorial Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Mo., also will be private.
Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church of Valley Falls or to the Historical Society of Valley Falls, sent in care of Davidson Funeral Home in Topeka.
