J.H. Eversole Passed Away Last Thursday
J.H. Eversole passed away at 5:45 last Thursday evening after an illness of about two years, from a cancer which started on the lip. Mr. Eversole had been steadily sinking for the past two months and for the past two weeks the family had looked for the end at any moment. Mr. Eversole bore his affliction with great fortitude his last moments being made as comfortable as the loving hands of his family could make him. John Eversole, the oldest son arrived on the morning of the day of the father’s decease, all the family being at his bedside when death came.
John Horatio Eversole was born near Mitchell, Indiana, April 11, 1857, being 60 years, 1 month and 6 days old when death came. On November 12, 1878 he was united in marriage to Mary A. McNab. Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Eversole, five of whom are living.
Mr. and Mrs. Eversole first came to Kansas in 1884, locating in Marion county at Peabody where they remained until 1903 when they moved to Lowell, Ark. After living there nine years they came to Rossville.
The surviving members of his family beside his widow are, Mrs. J. H. Roush, of Albuquerque, N. Mex., Mrs. L.P. Hartzell, George Eversole and Glayds Eversole of Rossville, and John J. Eversole, of Pocatello, Idaho. Of the three children gone on before two died in infancy and one just in the fullness of beautiful womanhood. There are four grandchildren. One brother at Mitchell, Ind., was unable to attend the funeral because of sickness.
Mr. Eversole was a member of the M.W.A. for twenty-five years and a member of the Court of Honor. He was also a member of the M.E. church and his funeral was held at the Rossville M.E. church, Saturday, May 19, at 2 p.m. conducted by Rev. W. T. Ward. Interment was made in the Rossville cemetery.
An Appreciation – Because of the anxiety occasioned to the family by the accident to John Eversole, so closely following the death of his father many things were necessarily neglected.
We take this means of thanking the M.E. church, High school, Ladies Club and Woodman Lodge, whose members we cannot reach separately, for the beautiful floral offerings in memory of J.H. Eversole. The many beautiful individual offerings have been acknowledged individually.
Our hears overflow with gratitude to the people of Rossville for their kindness to us during all of our trouble.
    Mrs. J.H. Eversole and family
