Frederick E. “Fred” Feaker
Frederick E. “Fred” Feaker, 62, 1434 S.W. Oakley, died Saturday at a Topeka nursing home after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 8, 1919, at Paoli, Colo., the son of Frederick J. and Nellie Wells Feaker. He attended Topeka public schools, was graduated from Topeka High School and attended Washburn University at Topeka.
Mr. Feaker was a member of Topeka Police Department for 27 years and retired as captain and director of public relations for the department. He also was editor and publisher of Topeka Magazine for seven years and editor and publisher of Kansas Sheriff’s magazine.
He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church, Golden Rule Lodge , No. 90, AF&AM, Scottish Rite Bodies, Fraternal Order of Police, Kansas Sheriff’s Association, Kansas Peace Officers Association, Public Relations Society, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 555, Topeka West Rotary Club, Ambassadors of Chamber of Commerce and Advisory Board of Salvation Army, all at Topeka. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He married Joyce Watson Feb. 11, 1958, at Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Sherrill Hollis, Rosamond, Calif.;
a son, Barry Feaker, Topeka; a sister, Mrs. Lavenna Newell, Topeka; two brothers, Darrell Feaker, Barrington, Ill., and Richard Feaker, Topeka; and three grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Mount Hope Chapel. Entombment will be in Mount Hope Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to The Salvation Army, 1320 S.E. 6th, Box 599, Topeka, 66607. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
