Please join family and friends of Mary Hanrahan for a brief grave-side service to bury her ashes. A life-long nurse and care-giver to many, Mary donated her body to KU Medical Center upon her death in 2012. Her ashes will be buried at Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Monday, October 13, at 10:00am. |

Mary C. Hanrahan, 92, of Topeka, died August 10, 2012 at her home. She was born on June 11, 1920 in St. Marys, Kansas the daughter of Claude A. and Catherine Mainey Ulrich. She married Leo F. Hanrahan in Topeka on September 15, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1996. Also preceding were two sisters, Catherine Pitt and Lucille Ulrich, and three brothers, Lester, Thomas and Leo Ulrich. Survivors include three sons, Patrick of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael of Seattle, Washington, and Kelly of Derby, Kansas, and one sister Helen Marx of Topeka, and many loving nieces and nephews who were her pride and joy. Mary graduated from Immaculate Conception Academy in 1938 and St. Francis School of Nursing in 1941. She worked as a Registered Nurse at VA Hospital, private duty nursing, Lawrence Memorial Hospital and retired from Memorial Hospital in Topeka in 1982. She never really gave up nursing. After retirement she cared for many relatives and friends. Mary loved traveling, crafts, playing cards, casinos, sports and was an avid KU fan. She was a member of Mater Dei Assumption Parish, St. Francis Nurses Alumni, Eagles Lodge #4319, VFW Post #1650 Auxiliary and American Legion Post #1 Auxiliary. Mary donated her body to the University of Kansas, School of Medicine. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 12th, at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a Parish Rosary will be prayed at 7;00 p.m. followed by and St. Francis Nurses Alumni memorial service. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 13th, at Mater Dei Assumption Parish at 11:00 a.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Grace Hospice and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603. |
