Golden Wedding Celebration Set
Mr. and Mrs. Vern Hoobler of Maple Hill will observe their Golden Wedding Anniversary with open house Sunday, June 9, at the Methodist Church Hall, St. Marys.
No invitations are being issued, but friends and relatives are asked to call at the hall between 3 and 5 p.m. The couple request no gifts. A family dinner will be served at noon at the church for the immediate family.
Mr. and Mrs. Hoobier were married June 4, 1913 at Topeka. They have nine children, 8 sons and one daughter and 29 grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Hoobler have lived in the Turkey Creek community in Wabaunsee county most of their lives with the exception of living in Rossville from 1944 to 1949.

| Anniversary- Hoobler, Lloyd and Dorothy Hooblers will celebrate golden anniversary
Lloyd and Dorothy Hoobler, St Marys, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon, November 12, at Hammond Hall, the United Methodist Church, St. Marys.
Hosting the reception will be the couple’s children — Dr. Raymond and Debra Hoobler, Atlanta, Ga., and Susan and Bruce Ottmann, and grandsons Matthew, Mark, and Michael Ottman, Topeka.
Lloyd Hoobler and Dorothy Newcomer were married November 13, 1945, at her home near Uniontown, Pa.
Mr. Hoobler served almost four years with the U.S. Army during World War 2, then worked for the Jones Alfalfa Milling Company, St. Marys, and the C.G.F. Grain Company, Topeka. He retired in 1982 from the Irrigation Department of the Farmers Union Cooperative Association, St. Marys.
Mrs. Hoobler is a free-lance journalist who writes a historical column and feature articles for the “St Marys Star.” She has published two books about the history of St Marys.

Lloyd A. Hoobler, 87, St. Marys, died Thursday, December 16, 2004, at the Rossville Valley Manor.
He was born November 4, 1917, in Tayler, NE, the son of Vern R and Mary Myrtle Rake Hoobler.
Lloyd graduated from Maple Hill High School and had lived most of his life in the St. Marys community. He served in the United States Army in Alaska during World War II. He was an industrial electrician in Topeka and St. Marys. He worked for the St. Marys Farmers Union Co-op for many years until he retired. He was a volunteer fireman in St. Marys for 25 years and served as assistant fire chief.
Mr. Hoobler was a member of the St. Marys-United Methodist Church, and served on its building committee when Hammond Hall and the new church were built. He was a member of the Hoy-Heim American Legion Post in St. Marys. He was a member of the Railroader Camping Club in Topeka and a former member of the Pottawatomie Lodge in St. Marys.
On January 13, 1945, he married Dorothy Newcomer at Uniontown, PA. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Susan Ottman, Topeka; a son, Dr. Ray Hoobler, McDonough, GA; a sister, Mildred Ronsse, St. Marys; three brothers, Forest Hoobler, Topeka; Everett Hoobler, St. Marys, and Lester A. Hoobler, Seattle, WA; three grandchilden and two great-grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold, Raymond, Albert, and Dwight Hoobler.
His service was at 10 a.m. Saturday at the St. Marys United Methodist Church. Burial was in Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys. Visitation was Friday evening at Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys 66536.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys United Methodist Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
