| Obituary- Mahon, George G. George “Gillie” Mahon
George Gilbert “Gillie” Mahon, 91, Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 4, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Mahon was a self-employed mechanic. He served in Company B, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Army Division with the American Expeditionary Forces in France during World War I.
He was born Aug. 21, 1894, north of Silver Lake, the son of George B. and Bessie Houseknecht Mahon.
Mr. Mahon was a member of the United Methodist Church and Silver Lake Post No. 160 of the American Legion, both at Silver Lake. He also was a member of Veterans of World War I of U.S.A. Inc., Jayhawk Barracks No. 1113 and Philip Billard Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1650, both in Topeka.
He was married to Ruth McCoid Aug. 19, 1926, at Silver Lake. She died June 3, 1971. A son, Vernon C.F. Mahon, died Nov. 25, 1954.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Clara Mitchell, Rossville, and Mrs. Hazel Harris, Burr Oak; two grand-children; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Parker-Price Mortuary in Topeka. Military graveside services will be conducted by Silver Lake Post No. 160 in Silver Lake Cemetery. Mr. Mahon will lie in state until service time at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3003 Van Buren, 66611.
