| Obituary- Middleton, Sandra 1 Sandra ‘Sandy’ Irene Middleton
Sandra “Sandy” Irene Middleton, 56, joined family and friends in heaven on March 2, 2012, after losing her battle with cancer at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born on Jan. 20,1956, the daughter of William S. and Ida E. Windsberg Middleton in Kansas City, Mo. Sandy was raised in the Garden City, Mo., area, and in 1974 graduated from Warsaw (Mo.) High School. She attended Sedalia Community College. Sandy moved to Kansas and started her 30-year career with Jeffries Energy Center in 1979, completing her chemist associate’s degree with Westar Energy. Sandy was a Local 304 member for 34 years.
Sandy enjoyed the past 30 years as a resident of St. Marys and was a longtime member of St. Marys United Methodist Church. She recently celebrated 31 years of sobriety as a member of AA and NA. She was a member of the American Legion Riders (Jimmie Lillard Post 31) and the Patriot Guard in Rossville.
She was appreciated for her love of gardening, fireworks, and was an avid Harley cyclist. She loved horses, scuba diving, and anything that brought adventure into her life. Family and friends remember her for having a compassionate heart and never knowing a stranger.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Lonnie, Bruce, Brad, and Billie Middleton, uncle Dewey Plank, and niece Kimberly Lynn Flippen.
She is survived by her sister, Sonya Idene Middleton Cardinal of Silver Lake; her nephew, C.J. Fields of Gilbert, Ariz.; a niece, Cherise Danielle Middleton Riccomini of Emmett; two aunts, Virginia B. Middleton Plank of Mesa, Ariz., and Priscilla A. Middleton Darling of Peculiar, Mo. She is also survived by her boyfriend, Scott Hanner of St. Marys.
Memorial services were set for 4 p.m. March 10 at St. Marys United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, Mo.
The family requests donations to cancer research at the University of Kansas Hospital in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, KS 66536.

Middleton Darling (Wayne), Peculiar MO, and cousins Kirby Plank (Becky), Hart MO, David Plank (Doreen), Clinton MO, and Carla Darling Teague (Michael), Kansas City, MO. She is also survived by her boyfriend Scott Hanner, St. Marys, and many beloved friends.
Memorial services will be at 4:00 P.M. Saturday, March 10, 2012 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church, 7th & Elm. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Garden City Cemetery, Garden City, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to cancer research at the University of Kansas Hospital in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys KS 66536.
