A surprise reception is planned to honor Gerald and Ruth Larson, Rossville.
The reception will be in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary and is set for 2 to 4 p.m. April 28 at the United Methodist Church, 411 Pearl in Rossville.
Hosts will be their children, Barton Larson, Columbia, Mo., and Carol Larson Heintzelman, West Plains, Mo. They have two grandchildren.
Gerald Larson and Ruth Beskow were married April 28, 1946, in Lyndon. They have lived in Rossville 41 years.
To keep the celebration a surprise, their children request that no phone calls or cards be sent to the couple before the reception. Cards may be sent in advance to their daughter, Carol Heintzelman, 1907 Kelly Drive, West Plains, Mo., 65775, to be presented at the reception.
It is requested no gifts be given.

Gerald and Ruth Larson, Rossville, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner on April 28.
Gerald Larson and Ruth A. Beskow were married April 28,1946, in Lyndon.
Their children are Barton and Phyllis Larson, Westphalia, Mo., and Carol and Gary Heintzelman, Cheyenne, Wyo. Their grandchildren are Tracey Larson Ott, Kansas City, Kan., and Hillary Larson, Columbia, Mo.
The Larsons operated the Olivet grocery store before moving in 1954 to Rossville, where they operated a gas station for several years and built a mobile home park. Gerald worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Rossville and retired in 1975. Ruth taught in Osage County for 10 years before her marriage, then was a homemaker and helped with their businesses.

ROSSVILLE- Ruth Alberta (Beskow) Larson was born om
November 11, 1918 (on the actual Armistice Day) in Lyndon, Kansas in one of the counties oldest log homes. She graduated from Lyndon High School and taught in one-room schoolhouses in the Lyndon area for ten years. Following WW1I she married Gerald Larson from Quenemo, Kansas. They farmed together for several years, ran a grocery store in Olivet, Kansas for awhile, finally making their permanent home in Rossville, Kansas in 1954. Ruth worked for a time at Peoples State Bank of Rossville, but her passion was for being wife, mother and homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, traveling and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerald, a son, Barton Larson of Westphalia, Missouri, a daughter, Carol Heintzelman of Topeka, two grandchildren, Tracey Ott of Florida and Hillary Larson of Missouri, a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Larson and son-in-law, Gary Heintzelman. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church of Rossville and prior to that the Methodist Church in Lyndon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary (Bailey) Beskow of Lyndon, and one brother Gene Beskow of Topeka. Her kind and gentle ways will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be held at the Rossville United Methodist Church on Monday, December 17 at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be at the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Larson will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 2:00 until 4:00 P.M. Sunday, December 16th at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Rossville or to Midland Hospice of Topeka and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
