 | Obituary- Logan, Vickie Rossville Girl, 18 Killed in Accident
A Rossville youth was listed in satisfactory condition Saturday night by officials at Stormont-Vail Hospital where he was admitted early Saturday after he was injured and a Rossville girl was killed when their vehicle ran into the side of a freight train at a Rossville crossing.
Rudy T. Crawford, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vance Crawford, Rossville, suffered a cut on his right ear and back and neck injuries and was admitted to the hospital after several stitches were taken to close the wound.
Vicki Jean Logan, 18, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard L. Logan, Rossville, the only passenger in the vehicle Crawford was driving, was dead on arrival at the same hospital. She suffered severe head injuries.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said the Union Pacific train was headed east and the new pickup-type vehicle was southbound when it struck the side of the engine. The vehicle was dragged an estimated 49 feet and both occupants were thrown out.
Vicki Jean Logan was born Jan. 13, 1953, at Dodge City and lived at Kinsley before she moved to Rossville. She was a student at Washburn University and was employed by the Credit Bureau of Topeka. She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Topeka.
Besides her parents, survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Mary Kay Griffith, Hesston, Mrs. Connie Smith, hays, and Michele Logan, at home; and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Grant Powers Sr., Bucklin, Mrs. Bessie Logan, Columbia, Mo., and C.V. Logan, Livonia, Mo.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Christ Lutheran Church in Topeka. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Gardens west of Topeka. Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
