    John Nitsch
    John I. Nitsch, 63, Delia, died Tuesday, November 26, 2002, at his home.

    He was born May 15, 1939, in Lincoln County, the son of Eric John and Minnie Irene Pounds Nitsch.

    He lived in the Delia community since September 1972.

    He grew up in the Lincoln County community. He accepted Christ as his saviour at the age of 11, when he was baptized and was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, rural Hunter.

    He owned and operated Nitsch Trash Service. He had served on the Delia City Council. He was a member of the Topeka Legends Racing Association.

    On January 29,1971, he married JoAnn Hyman at Lincoln. She survives. A granddaughter, Kayla Caraway, died.

    Other survivors include a daughter, Jeannie Gerard, Beloit; a step-daughter, Kim Kreipe, Meriden; a son, John E. “Dink” Nitsch, Delia; four stepsons, Jim Caraway, Lawrence, Rick Caraway, Denver, CO, Tom Caraway, Delia, Joe Caraway, Topeka; two sisters, Leota Herman, Concordia, and Janice Oetting, Sylvan Grove; a brother, Roger Nitsch, Hunter; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    His service was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial was in the Delia Cemetery.

    A family visitation was held from 7-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Basic Cancer Research, Kansas State University, and sent in care of Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, 714 Maple St., St. Marys 66536.

    Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

    DELIA —John I. Nitsch, 63, Delia, died Tuesday, Nov. 26,2002, at his home.

    Mr. Nitsch owned and operated Nitsch Trash Service, He also had served on the Delia City Council.

    He was born May 15,1939, in Lincoln County, the son of Eric John and Minnie Irene Pounds Nitsch. He was reared in Lincoln County and had lived in Delia since 1972.

    Mr. Nitsch was a member of Bethany Baptist Church near Hunter.

    Mr. Nitsch was a member of the Topeka Racing Legends Association.

    Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Delia Cemetery. Mr. Nitsch will lie in state at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Friday. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m.
