    A double wedding ceremony was solemnized October 6th at the Presbyterian Manse in Rossville when William Olejnik of Rossville and Christina Polson of Silver Lake; and Edward Olejnik and Grete [Greta] Mae Polson also of Silver Lake were united in marriage.

    Bill and Tina Olejnik of Rossville and Ed and Greta Olejnik of Holton will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversaries with a family dinner.

    Both couples were married in a double wedding ceremony on Oct. 6, 1948, at the Presbyterian Church in Rossville with the Rev. B.A. Rundus officiating.

    Bill and Ed Olejnik are brothers and Tina Polson Olejnik and Greta Polson Olejnik are sisters.

    Bill and Tina Olejnik are the parents of Robert W. and Kathy Olejnik, Rossville; Lila Jean Olejnik, Topeka; and Lisa Kay and Jim Pinney, Johnstown, Neb, They have five grandchildren.

    Bill is a retired farmer and Tina is employed at the St. Marys Health Center in St. Marys.

    Ed and Greta Olejnik are the parents of Linda Mae and Larry Smatla, Oskaloosa, and Judy Kay Olejnik, Key West, Fla. They have two grandchildren.

    Ed retired as a mechanic from the John Deere dealership in Holton. Greta is employed in food service in Holton schools.

    Greta Mae Olejnik
    Greta Mae Olejnik, 75, passed away Friday, June 1, 2007, at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

    She was born Jan. 12, 1932, at Centralia, the daughter of Ellis and Juanita Mitchell Polson.

    Greta worked in the Food Services Department for the Holton School District for over 30 years and also worked in the Bakery Department at Ron's United Super in Holton.

    On Oct. 6, 1948, she was united in marriage to Edward Olejnik. He died Oct. 6, 2001, on their 53rd wedding anniversary.

    Surviving are two daughters, Linda Smatla, and her husband Larry, Oskaloosa, and Judy Smith and her partner, Dee Bardini, Aberdeen, NJ; grandchildren, Laura Smatla Turner, and her husband, Jim, Oskaloosa and Luke Smatla, Nortonville; a great-grandson, Garrett Turner, Oskaloosa; a sister, Tina Olejnik and her husband Bill, Rossville.

    Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 5, at Piper Funeral Home in St. Marys.

    Interment was in the Czech-Moravan Cemetery north of Rossville.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Midland Hospice or to the Rossville Presbyterian Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
