| Obituary- Owen, James James W. Owen
Jim Owen, 86, passed away Sunday, December 31, in a Topeka hospital, following a short illness.
He was born in Roanoke County, Virginia, December 9, 1853. In 1889 he was married and his wife passed away in 1892. A few years after her death he came to Rossville and had made this community his home since. For many years he was employed at the old Holden ranch near Kingsville.
The past fourteen years he had lived neighbor to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Parr and had been a constant helper with the outdoor chores at the Parr home. He was a true friend and perfect neighbor. His fine qualities as a citizen made him respected by all who knew him.
Relatives surviving are his brother Robert Owen, Topeka; three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Hoskinson, Hugoton, Kansas; Mrs. Mattie McCarty and Mrs. Sallie Fuller, both of Stafford, Kansas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Conwell Funeral Home in Topeka at 2 o’clock, with the Rev. C, P. Broadfoot, pastor of the Rossville Methodist church officiating.
The pallbearers were Messrs. Joe Parr, Joe Navarre, Alfred Hause, Harry Gutshall, Lester Whitehead, and Ernest Tschantz.
Burial was in the Rossville cemetery.
