| Obituary- Safarik, Delbert Delbert Leroy Safarik
Delbert Leroy Safarik, 58, Topeka, died Tuesday, Dec. 29,1998, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Safarik was a maintenance mechanic and fireman for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 34 years before he retired in 1998. He served in the Navy aboard the submarine USS Growler from 1958 to 1964, and he served on Johnson Island during the Vietnam War.
He was born May 24,1940, in Hiawatha, the son of Leroy E. and Carol Hess Safarik. He moved to the Elmont area in 1984.
Mr. Safarik was a member of the Wetmore United Methodist Church and the Eagles Lodge in Holton. He was a life member of the Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville. He also was a life member and past commander of Goodyear Post No. 2187 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Topeka.
He married Regina Hanrahan on Aug. 16, 1988, at Miami, Okla. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Pladies, Topeka, and Kelli Proehl, Emporia; a son, Kevin Safarik, Topeka; a stepdaughter, Debra Heideman, Wamego; six stepsons, Donald Mulanax, St. Marys, Richard Mulanax, Wamego, Mark Mulanax, Topeka, Michael Goss, Topeka, William Goss, Lake Stevens, Wash., and David Goss Jr., Everett, Wash.; a brother, David E. Safarik, Hoyt; a sister, Judith C. Hollabaugh, Topeka; three grandchildren; 21 stepgrandchildren; and one stepgreat- granddaughter.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Northland Christian Church. Burial will be at Half-Day Cemetery at Elmont. Post No. 31 of the American Legion will conduct military services at the graveside.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home.
