Charles N. “Charlie” Sharp, 83, St. Marys, died Friday, Sept. 8.
He was born Feb. 15, 1923 at Miltonvale, the son of Charles N. and Eunice G. Neill Sharp. He moved to St. Marys in May 1946 where he owned and operated a filling station for 33 years selling the station in 1979.
Charlie was a 59 year member and Past Master of Pottawatomie Lodge No. 52 AF/AM, and an Eastern Star member for 59 years. He was a current member of Wamego Lodge No. 75 AF/AM. He served as Deputy Grand Master in 1967. He also was a 56 year member of the Arab Shrine Temple in Topeka. Charles was a member of the St. Marys United Methodist Church. He had served three different terms on the St. Marys City Commission, and was the Republican West Precinct Committeeman for 41 years.
On January 23, 1948 he was united in marriage to Mary Agnes Blackburn at the Manhattan Christian College, Manhattan. To this union two sons and a daughter were born.
Survivors are his wife Mary of the home; sons, Charles N. Sharp IV, Salina and David B. (Janice) Sharp, Rossville; his daughter Sally L. Sharp, Garden City; a brother, Jim Sharp, Wichita; a sister, Clara Shannon, Highland Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren, Clinton Neill, Emily, Ben, Joe, Hannah and Abigail.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Sept. 12 at the St. Marys United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Marys United Methodist Church and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys.
