| Obituary- Skimore, James 1 James B. ‘Buck’ Skidmore
James B. “Buck” Skidmore, 80, Rossville, died Monday, June 1, 1987, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Skidmore worked for Rock Island Lines 36 years and was a roadmaster before he retired in 1960.
He was born Oct. 24, 1906, at Junior, W.Va., the son of Albert and Martha Swik Skidmore. He grew up in the Willard and Rossville communities.
Mr. Skidmore was a charter member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks lodge at Dalhart, Texas.
His first wife, Mrs. Gladys Prater Skidmore, died in 1976. He was married to Gertrude Stiles Aug. 1, 1981, at Rossville. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Pauline Stoner, Odessa, Texas; three stepdaughters, Mrs. Laura Miller, Bullhead City, Ariz., Mrs. Marie Owens, Linwood, and Mrs. Jan Schneider, Rossville; a stepson, Dale Stiles, Rossville; a sister, Mrs. Laura Jackson, Willard; two brothers, Joe Skidmore, Yellville, Ark., and Richard Skidmore, Holton; three grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Skidmore will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville.
