WILLARD — Gloria C. Thompson, 64, Willard, died Sunday, May 26, 1996, at a Topeka hospital.
Mrs. Thompson was a licensed practical nurse. She had worked at Smithville-Spellman Memorial Hospital and the Geriatric Unit, both at Smithville, Mo., and the Doctors Clinic at Platte City, Mo.
She was born Nov. 24, 1931, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Alden L. and Anna K. Sharp Campbell. She was graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1949 and had lived at Willard since July 1981.
Mrs. Thompson was a member of Rossville Christian Church and the Ladies Quilting Group at the church. She also was a member of the Rossville Literary and Music Circle and a past member of the Silver Lake Community Choir. She also was a member of the auxiliary to Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion at Rossville, and she had been active in scouting in Missouri.
She married Guy O. Thompson Jr. on Aug. 26, 1949, at Ottawa. He survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Charlene Ashley, Nevada, Mo.; three sons, Edward Lee Thompson, Salt Lake City, Ronald D. Thompson, Smithville, Mo., and Jeffrey A. Thompson, Memphis, Tenn.; a sister, Janeane Butterfield, Overland Park;17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Thompson was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Catie Thompson.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Rossville Christian Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Thompson will lie in state after 2 p.m. Thursday at the Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home at St. Marys where relatives and friends will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Rossville Christian Church and sent in care of the funeral home.
