Donald E. Tutt, 87, Topeka, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at a local hospital. Don was bom March 10,1924 in Topeka, the son of Vern Coleman and Freda (Black) Tutt. He attended Topeka schools and was a graduate of Washburn University in 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army, 1st Combat Engineers, during World War II, participating in five campaigns in the European Theater of Operations. Don worked in advertising in Topeka and Miami, Fla. He returned to the Topeka area in 1970 and worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation, retiring in 1987. He and his family lived in rural Denison for 30 years, before moving to Topeka in 2001.
Don married Frances Brehmer on March 13, 1947, in Ottawa. She survives. Other survivors include a sister, Patricia A. Mick of Topeka; nephews, Ronald Mick of Rossville and Ted Martin of Denison; and nieces, Tanya Nestler of Topeka, and Carolyn Martin Captain of Parsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Venita A. Moreland.
Cremation was chosen, and no services are planned. A visitation was held Dec. 20 at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. He was a charter member of the Heart of Jackson Humane Society, and memorial contributions may be made to that organization at P.O. Box 126, Holton, KS 66436.
