    Bernard and Roberta Vande Velde, Topeka, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an anniversary trip and a family dinner.

    Roberta Murry and Bernard VandeVelde were married May 24,1955, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia.

    They are the parents of Linda Tinsley, Topeka; Robbyn Vande Velde, Topeka; and Sherryll and Steve Flatt, Double Oak, Texas.

    Their five grandchildren are Ryan Tinsley, Halie Tinsley, Garrett Donald and Dyllan Donald, all of Topeka, and Chad Flatt, Double Oak, Texas.

    Mr. Vande Velde was a plumber and pipefitter for 26 years and member of Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 165. He retired in 1997 from maintenance at Topeka Public Schools.

    Mrs. Vande Velde is a homemaker.

    Bernard Anthony Vande Velde
    Bernard Anthony Vande Velde, 77, of Topeka, died May 28, 2009 at his home.

    He was born on February 24,1932 in Emmett the son of Charles J. and Christina (DeLeye) Vande Velde. Bernard served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

    Bernard was a plumber and pipefitter working out of Local # 165 before he retired in 1986. He then worked for Topeka School District 501 as a plumber from 1986 to 1997.

    He was a craftsman and enjoyed gardening, music, baseball, but most of all spending time with family.

    Bernard was a charter member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, life member of the Knights of Columbus and Local Union #165.

    He was married to Roberta L. Murry on May 24, 1955 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Delia. She survives.

    Other survivors include three daughters; Sherryll (Steve) Flatt of Double Oak, TX, Linda Tinsley and Robbyn Vande Velde both of Topeka. Five grandchildren, Ryan, Halie, Chad, Garrett and Dyllan also survive. He was preceded in death by two brothers, August and Charles and two sisters, Veronica and Mary Louise.

    Bernard will lie in state at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home on Monday after 2:00 p.m. where the family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.

    Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery with military honors provided by Philip Billard Post #1650 of the VFW.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Heart of America Hospice or St. Matthew Capital Campaign and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 SE 6th Ave., 66603.
