ROSSVILLE - Walter W. Weckwerth, 94, Rossville, died Wednesday, March 31, 2004, in Rossville. He was born Sept. 25,1909, in Kane, Wyo., the son of Walter William Weckwerth and Mary Louise Verboncoeur Weckwerth. Mr. Weckwerth was a section foreman for the Burlington Railroad for 45 years before retiring in 1974 to Loomis, Neb. He enjoyed carpentry work, fishing and gardening. He had lived in Topeka from 1999 until moving to Rossville in 2003. Mr. Weckwerth was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Topeka, and the Knights of Columbus in Alliance, Neb., and Holyoke, Colo. He married Mabel Meier on June 25, 1935, in Wymore, Neb. She survives. Other survivors include a son, James Weckwerth, Topeka; three daughters, Clara Erixson, Crawford, Neb., Judy Schance, Boise, Idaho, and Reta Bourquin, Loomis, Neb.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Weckwerth will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a m. Monday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church and sent in care of the funeral home, 800 S.W. 6th Ave., Topeka, Kan., 66603.
