Thomas Roland “Ron” Whiteman, 91, Silver Lake, Kansas, died Wednesday, July 10, 2013, at his home. He was born September 17, 1921, in Silver Lake, Kansas, the son of Thomas Harrison and Celestia Mae (Hansford) Whiteman.
He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1942. Ron served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict and then joined the Kansas Air National Guard 190th. He was a fifty year plus member of Silver Lake American Legion Post # 160.
Ron was married to Donna Lee Stitt on September 16,1945, in Willard, Kansas.
Surviving are his wife: Donna Whiteman of the home; a daughter: Debby Jones (Daye) of Rossville, Kansas; a brother: Francis Baker (Sarah) of Buena Vista, Colorado; granddaughter: Jodi Whitt of Silver Lake, Kansas; great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Harley, and Raygan; and extended family: Michael Jones, Bobbie Kramm, and Debra Beach.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, July 15, 2013, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 NW Independence Avenue, Topeka, Kansas. The Kansas Air National Guard 190th will conduct military honors at Silver Lake Cemetery.
Ron will lie in state after 3:00 PM, Sunday, at the funeral chapel where the family will receive friends one hour prior to funeral services.

Thomas Roland “Ron” Whiteman, 91, of Silver Lake, died July 10,2013, at his home. He was born Sept. 17, 1921, in Silver Lake, the son of Thomas Harrison and Celestia Mae (Hansford) Whiteman. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1942. Ron served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict and retired Sept. 17,1983as a master sergeant from the Kansas Air National Guard 190th. He then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service. He was a 50-year plus member of Silver Lake American Legion Post 160.
Since 1991, Ron and Donna enjoyed their summer home in Buena Vista, Colo., spending time with their family and friends. Ron was married to Donna Lee Stitt on Sept. 16, 1945, in Willard, Kan.
Surviving are his wife, Donna Whiteman of the home; a daughter, Debby Jones and husband Daye of Rossville; a brother, Francis Baker and wife Sarah of Buena Vista, Colo.; a brother-in-law, John Kingsley of Topeka; granddaughter, Jodi Whitt of Silver Lake; great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Harley, and Raygan; and extended family, Michael Jones, Bobbie Kramm, and Debra Beach.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Dorothy Kingsley. Funeral services were Monday, July 15, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, Topeka. The Kansas Air National Guard 190th conducted military honors at Silver Lake Cemetery.
