| Obituary- Whitney, Carrie
CARRIE L. WHITNEY
Mrs. Carrie L. Whitney was born in New Haven, Conn., January 26, 1867 and passed away at the age of 89 on October 15, 1956.
When just a small child she, with her divorced mother, Mrs. Louisa Belwood, one sister and two brothers came west with other relatives to the vicinity of Akron, Iowa, where she was brought up with a good education and joined the Methodist church. She was active in church work and taught five years of school before marrying Orson Deforest Whitney, a farmer, on May 12, 1891.
To this union four children were born. In 1911 the family moved to Kansas where they have lived in the vicinity of Rossville since 1912.
The husband and two children, a daughter Thora and an infant son Isadore Lloyd, preceded her in death.
Those surviving her are a brother Arthur Belwood at Akron, Iowa, and two children, a son Curt K. Whitney at Oxnard, Calif., and a daughter Miss Vida at the home.
There are four grandchildren, one a grandson Clay W. Young of the home, and three great grandchildren.
She was a devoted mother to her family and was active in church work most of her life.
