A Down-Syndrome younger brother, Lawrence, died in 1944. Robert was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He married Gloria H. Barnett, a native of Prescott, Arizona, in 1964. She survives him. He was the author of Tune of the Hickory Stick, a novel.
