Susan Lee Lord, Rossville, and Rex E. Stapel, Meriden, exchanged marriage vows Wednesday, June 7, 1978 at 7 p.m. The outdoor lawn wedding took place at the home of the groom in rural Meriden. The double ring ceremony was performed by the Reverend James F. Coder.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leo N. Lord, Rossville. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Lola Stapel, Meriden, and the late Raymond S. Stapel.

The bridal gown and veil was made by the bride. The V-open neckline and high fitted bodice of her gown was of white bridal satin and re-embroidered lace with scallops edging the neckline. The edge of the bodice was accented with cut re-embroidered lace which contoured gracefully in the back to the waistline. The slight bell-flared sleeves were of satin with scallops of cut reembroidered lace. The A-line skirt was also of satin, gathered softly in the back to fit the waistline. A slight flowing chapel train was edged with scallops of cut re-embroidered lace as was the front hem of the gown. On the wrist of her gown, the bride wore a gold locket watch which belonged to the groom’s grandmother, the late Mrs. Grace Dauber. Her double-tiered street length veil was of white alluring bridal illusion edged with delicate white ribbon lace. This was held by the head piece which was adorned with heavy lace, satin and voile flowers.

The ceremony was performed in front of a vine-covered wall with a white trellis covered with greenery, yellow roses and a yellow center bow. Yellow bows were on the front aisle chairs.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, carried a cascade bouquet of yellow roses, miniature white and mint green carnations, baby’s breath, greenery, embellished with bursts and hearts, and seed pearls. It was accented with white lace and mint green ribbon streamers. The bride’s going away corsage was of commodore roses and baby’s breath.

Ernie Allison, Grantville, accompanied himself on the guitar to “You Light Up My Life,” and “True Love.” He also played the “Wedding March” and his own arrangement for the conclusion of the ceremony.

Cindy Kay Lord, Rossville, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore a cap sleeved floor length mint green gown which was covered with white lace with a mint green ruffled hem accented with dainty mint green daisies with daisies also on the front and back yoke of the flowing gown.
