CATAWBA, N.C. — Phyllis M. Roney, 80, of James St., Catawba, N.C., formerly of Topeka, Kan., died Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2005, at the Hospice House of Catawba Valley.
Born June 22, 1925, in Shawnee County, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Charles Edward and Alice Stum DeGraff.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of Daughters of Isabella Little Flower Circle No. 503 in Topeka. She was retired after 30 years as secretary to the superintendent of Auburn-Washburn U.S.D. No. 437.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Alice Roney, Houston, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Norma and William Meece, Catawba, N.C.; four sisters, Vera Sicking, Topeka, Dolly Heiland, Rossville, Patricia Brown, Meriden, and Bonnie Thomas, Silver Lake; two grandsons; and seven great-grand¬children.
A funeral mass will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2005, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Newton, N.C. Father Jim Collins and Deacon Scott Gilfillan will officiate and burial will be at a later date.
The family will receive friends at the church from 5 to 5:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to N.C. Alzheimer’s Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215 or to Palliative Care Center and Hospice of Catawba Valley, 3975 Rob¬inson Road, Newton, N.C. 28658.
