 | Obituary- Barker, Viola Viola “Pinky” Susan Barker, 90, of Wamego. Kansas passed away at her home on Sunday, April 21, 2013 following her battle with cancer.
She was born July 27, 1922 in Willard, Kansas the daughter of George and Fannie Lloyd Hahn. Pinky attended grade school
in Rossville, KS and also graduated from high school at Holton, Kansas.
Following high school, she married Richard "Dick” Vincent Barker on June 3, 1943 in Holton. She and Dick moved from Holton to Wamego in 1946, where they both lived the remainder of their lives. Dick preceded her in death on February 22, 1999.
Pinky worked at the Topeka offices of Santa Fe Railroad for several years while she attended night school at Clark’s School of Secretarial and Business. After moving to Wamego, she worked for several years at Wamego Electric and then for Dr. Gail McPeak until her retirement.
Pinky was always very active and supportive of the Wamego community. She was a member or past member of Wamego American Legion Auxiliary, Wamego VFW Auxiliary, St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Wamego Historical Society, Wamego Hospital
Auxiliary, Wamego Senior Citizens, Sweet Adelines, and was a Girl Scout leader for 11 years.
Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Barker of Salina, KS; one sister of Pratt, KS. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Sue Barker.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, April 26, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church of Wamego. A rosary will be recited Friday at 10:00 a.m. just prior to the funeral. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pinky will lie in-state at Stewart Funeral Home of Wamego on Thursday from 12:00 until 6:30 p.m. The casket will remain closed throughout. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Wamego Hospital Auxiliary and may be left in care of Stewart Funeral Home. PO Box 48, 66547.
