Gladys I. Miles Holz, 79, Rossville, died Friday, December 3, 1999, at the St. Marys Manor.
She was born September 25, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of David and Mary Whitly Hawkins.
She grew up in the Topeka, Lyndon and Osage City communities. She was graduated from Osage City High School in 1938. Gladys and her first husband, Francis Miles, owned and operated the Hotel Café in Osage City. She later worked at Shawgo’s Clothing and Jack Anderson’s Shoe Store, both in Osage City. She had worked for Josten’s American Yearbook in Topeka for 15 years before she retired.
Gladys was a member of the Osage City United Methodist Church, and of the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion Auxiliary at Rossville.
She married Francis Miles January 29, 1940, at Osage City. He died in 1979. She married Wilmont F. “Bill” Holz August 12, 1987, at Miami, OK. He died June 22, 1999. She was also preceded in death by a son, Jerry Miles in 1994, and a grandson, Marc Smitha, in 1985.
Surviving her are a son, Bill Miles, Burlington; a daughter, Linda Smitha, Manhattan; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville. Inurnment was at 3:00 Monday in the Osage [missing rest]

ROSSVILLE —Gladys I. Miles Holz, 79, Rossville, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, at a St. Marys nursing home.
She owned and operated the Hotel Cate in Osage City with her first husband, Francis Miles. She later worked at Shawgo’s Clothing and Jack Anderson’s Shoe Store, both in Osage City. She also had worked for Jostens American Yearbook in Topeka for 15 years before retiring.
She was born Sept. 25, 1920, in Topeka, the daughter of David and Mary Whitly Hawkins.
She grew up in Topeka, Lyndon and Osage City and graduated from Osage City High School In 1938.
