Gertrude M. Yocum
Mrs. Gertrude M. “Gertie” Yocum, 88, St. Marys, died Sunday, January 4, 1987, at her home.
She was born February 23, 1898, in Belvue, the daughter of Samuel Heston and Ethelinda George Heston. She lived in St. Marys since 1917.
Mrs. Yocum had been recognized as the oldest member of the United Methodist Church in St. Marys.
She was married to George A. Yocum. He died June 20,1972.
Survivors include two sons, George Yocum, Kansas City, Mo., and C. Nicholas Yocum, St. Marys; eight daughters, Winifred Kerwin, Rossville, Kathryn Palmer, Wakarusa, Georgia Mae Forbes, Lake Stevens, Wash., Helen Gooden, Topeka, Marguerite Petty, Olathe, Alice Miller, Kingsville, Mo., Betty Hatfield, Manassas, Va., and Patricia Shove, Silver Lake; three brothers, Glen Heston, Kansas City, Kan., Carl Heston, Topeka, and David Heston, Oskaloosa; a sister, Pearl Timmons, Topeka; 35 grandchildren; 52 great-grand-children; and five great-great- grandchildren.
A prayer service will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in St. Marys. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery in St. Marys. Casket bearers are grandsons of Mrs. Yocum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church in St. Marys.
