ROSSVILLE — Mrs. Josephine Augusta Liebhardt, 97, Rossville, died Sunday, May 10, 1987, at her home.
She was born Aug. 4, 1889, near Dover, the daughter of Levi and Mary Ann Wells Wilson.
Mrs. Liebhardt had served as Sunday school superintendent at the former West Union Methodist Church. She was a member of the West Union Ladies’ Aid Society and West Union Happy Hour Club and was known for her hand-sewn quilts, afghans and other crafts. She had been a 4-H leader.
She later became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the relief society of the church.
She was married to Bert Miller May 19, 1909. They lived in the Rossville and Willard communities. He died Feb. 23, 1954. She was married to John Liebhardt Dec. 28, 1957. They moved to Provo, Utah, where she enrolled at Brigham Young University and held the distinction of being the oldest student enrolled there at the time.
She and her husband served their church in mission work in Florida and South Carolina in 1960 and 1961. They returned to Rossville in 1975. He died July 8, 1982.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Ruby Hatch, Shawnee; a son, John Miller, Willard; three stepsons, Edward Liebhardt, Houston, Texas, John Liebhardt, Cedar City, Utah, and Tom Liddard, Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Topeka. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery at Dover. Mrs. Liebhardt will lie in state from 4 p.m. today to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home in Topeka where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 3003 Van Buren, 66611, or to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 3611 Jewell, 66611.
