J.W. “Ted” George
J.W. "Ted" George, 93, Silver Lake, died Tuesday, March 12, 1996, at the Rossville Valley Manor.
Mr. George farmed in the Silver Lake area. He also had served on the Township Board as township treasurer.
He was born June 24, 1902, at Grand Junction, Colo., the son of Wilbur Fiske and Ida Pence George. He lived most of his life at Silver Lake.
Mr. George was a member of Silver Lake United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Lake Lodge No. 50 AF&AM. He also was a member of Loyal Chapter No. 176 of the Order of the Eastern Star, XYZ Club, and Silver Lake Senior Citizens.
He was married to Clestia Shetron February 22, 1923, at Lyndon. She died August 19, 1935. He was married to Vera Entsminger October 21, 1956, at Fredonia. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Ellen Thompson, Silver Lake; a stepson, William "Bill" Leggett, Selden; a stepdaughter, Janet Martinek, Silver Lake; three grandchildren; seven step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nine step great-grandchildren.
Family visitation was from 7 to 8 Wednesday evening at Parker-Price Mortuary. His funeral service was at 2 p.m. Thursday at the mortuary; burial was in Prairie Home Cemetery, Topeka.
