Obituary- Gresser, Joe

Joe M. Gresser
ROSSVILLE — Joe M. Gresser, 79, of Rossville died Friday, May 18, 1990, at his home.

Mr. Gresser was president of Peoples State Bank here from 1963 until he retired in 1974. He also was involved in insurance, real estate and farming.

He was born Sept. 5, 1910, at Rossville, the son of Clarence E. and Leonora E. Miller Gresser. He was a lifelong resident of Rossville and a 1933 graduate of the University of Kansas. He began working for Peoples State Bank in 1933 and except for when he served in World War II, he was there until he retired.

Mr. Gresser served in the amphibious forces for the Navy in the Mediterranean and the South Pacific during World War II.

He was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church and the Jimmie Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion.

He married Ruth A. McCurry June 13, 1942, at Chapel Hill, N.C. She survives.

Other survivors include a son, Dr. Michael Gresser, Les Cedres, Quebec; two daughters, Carolyn Gresser, Rossville, and Catherine Barber, Sachse, Texas; a brother, Don Gresser, Topeka; and two grandchildren.

A son, Robert Gresser, died in August 1946.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Verschelden Chapel at St. Marys. Burial will be at Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Gresser will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville First Responder Unit and sent in care of the Rossville Fire Department.
