Marvin L. Hoffman
Marvin L. Hoffman, 81, Topeka, died Friday, April 22, 2005, at Midland Hospice House.
He was born Jan. 6, 1924, in Halstead, the son of William “Babe” and Ida Belle Dawson Hoffman.
Marvin was a member of Willard Baptist Church, Jimmy Lillard Post No. 31 of the American Legion and Philip Billard Post No. 1650 of the VFW.
He served in the Army. Marvin played for many years in his band, Marvin Hoffman and the Sage Brush Boys.
He married LaVerne Adkins on July 3, 1948, in Topeka. She survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Kay Oiler and Pam Richey and her husband, Harold; two sons, Marvin Hoffman Jr. and his wife, Sherri, and Bill Hoffman and his wife, Coy, all of Topeka; grandchildren, Rich Deiter, Megan Richey, Kim Miller, Traci and Jasen Hoffman, Jarod Wright, and Lacey and Brady Hoffman; and two great-grandchildren, Colton and Ashlyn Hoffman Jr.
Marvin was preceded in death by a brother, William Hoffman Jr.
A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2005, at Penwell-Gabel Parker-Price Chapel, 245 N.W. Independence. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery in Dover. Mr. Hoffman will lie in state after 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the funeral chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
