Obituary- Hurla, George 2
George Francis Hurla
George Francis Hurla, 76, Kansas City, Kan., formerly of Delia, died Monday, February 15, 1993, at a Kansas City hospital.
Mr. Hurla worked 35 years for S&G Metals in Kansas City, Kan., and was a foreman when he retired.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, having served in the 801 Tank Destroyer Battalion in the European Theater.
He was born December 8, 1916, in Delia, the son of Louis and Margaret Salisbury Hurla.
Mr. Hurla was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and Quindaro Post No. 199 of the American Legion, both in Kansas City, Kan. He also was a coach in the Wyandotte County Sports Association, Liondotte League and American Legion Baseball.
He was married to Dorothy Cunningham on November 25, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Doris Hurla, Independence, Mo., Joan Widener, Springfield, Mo., and Mary Spangler, Kansas City, Kan.; three sons, Dennis Hurla and Lawrence Hurla, both of Kansas City, Kan., and Christopher Hurla, Olathe; a sister, Margaret Fricke, Panama City, Panama; two brothers, Tom Hurla, Kansas City, Kan., and Louis S. Hurla, Holton; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial was in Chapel Hill Cemetery at Kansas City, Kan. A rosary was recited on Thursday in Butler Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City, Kan., American Legion Baseball Fund in care of Security State Bank, 1901 Central Ave., Kansas City, Kan., 66102.
