Emial Kovar
ROSSVILLE — Emial P. Kovar, 98, Rossville, died Friday, Oct. 5,2001, at a Rossville nursing home.
Mr. Kovar was a meat cutter in Rossville for many years at the Wehner’s Grocery Store. He was a volunteer firefighter and treasurer for the Rossville Fire Department and Shawnee County Fire District No. 3.
He was born April 4,1903, near Delia, the son of Paul and Frances Kovarik Kovar. He lived his entire life in the Delia and Rossville communities.
Mr. Kovar was a life member of ZCBJ Lodge
and a charter member of Rossville Senior Center.
He married Carrie Ann Cerny on Aug. 4,1926, in Rossville. She died Feb. 6,1987. Mr. Kovar also was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy J. Davis, June 17,1990.
Survivors include two granddaughters, Carolyn Sage, Topeka, and Beverly Martinek, Loveland, Colo.; three great-grandchildren; and two great- great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Rossville Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Rossville Cemetery. Mr. Kovar will lie in state after 2 p.m. Sunday at Piper Funeral Chapel in Rossville, where visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Presbyterian Church or to the Rossville Senior Center and sent in care of the funeral chapel.
