Basil Francis Benard
ST. MARYS — Basil Francis Benard, 72, St. Marys, died Saturday, April 26, 1997, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. Benard was a real estate broker in Downey, Calif., for 30 years before he retired in 1990. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.
He was born Jan. 28, 1925, the son of Byron Corner and Rose Elizabeth McCor¬mick Benard. He was graduated from the University of Utah. He moved to St. Marys in 1992 and later to Rossville.
Mr. Benard was a member of the Mormon Church.
He was married to Catherine Cheatham in 1950 in DeQueen, Ark. She died in 1991.
Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth Rossiter, Shawnee; and four brothers, Robert Lee Benard, Oklahoma City, William M. Benard, Dallas, Richard R. Benard, Chanute, and Byron G. Benard, Aledo, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Leavenworth National Cemetery in Leavenworth. Memorial contributions may be made to Kansas City Youth for Christ, 4715 Rainbow Blvd., Shawnee, Kan. 66205. Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home in Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
