Death Claims Frank Markham
Frank Markham, aged 77 years 6 months and 15 days passed away Sunday morning, February 11, at 8:25 at his home on Spruce street. Mr. Markham had been a bedfast invalid for the past three years after suffering a stroke of paralysis.
Mr. Markham was one of the pioneer settlers of Rossville, coming to this community in the year 1876 and residing here since. For many years he lived on a farm north of Rossville. He also owned a small tract south of Rossville for a time which he improved and sold a few years ago before returning to Rossville and taking up his residence in the home where he passed away.
Mr. Markham was a native of Valpraso county, Pa., where he was born July 26, 1845. He entered the army July 20, 1864, in Company L, Seventh Illinois Vol. Calvary and received an honorable discharge at the close of the war.
After coming to Shawnee county he was married on October 23, 1877, to Miss Jane Lumpkins. To this union two sons were born, William H. of Topeka and Chas. of the home address, who with the widow survive him. He is also survived by one sister and one brother of Council Grove, Kans. and three grandchildren.
