Obituary- Martinek, Stephen 1

STEPHEN A. MARTINEK

Stephen August Martinek, 74, died at his home, 147 Storey St., Topeka, Tuesday, July 18, 1972,. Mass services were held Friday morning at 10 a.m. July 21, at the Holy Name Catholic Church with Father Shepard officiating. He was buried at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Topeka, with Brennan Mortuary in charge. Veterans of Foreign War Post of Topeka conducted military graveside services.

Mr. Martinek was born August 3, 1897, on a farm northeast of Rossville to the late Vincent and Agnes Martinek. During his young life he farmed and operated the steam engine in the Martinek threshing rig. At one time he owned and operated the Motor In Garage at Rossville.

In 1933 he move to Topeka where he worked for Kansas Power and Light until he retired in 1962. Since his retirement he enjoyed working on his small farm north of Grove as well as managing several other businesses.

He was a World War I Veteran, a member of ZCBJ Moravian Lodge 128, Rossville, Kansas, and Holy Name Catholic Church, Topeka. He was married to Mary T. Bravence in 1920 at Rossville. She survives. To this union two sons were born. They are Steven J. Martinek, 1110 Lincoln and Clarence J. Martinek, 906 Gage, of Topeka. Other survivors include six brothers: Vincent Martinek, William Martinek, Silver Lake, and Albert Martinek, Emil Martinek, Henry Martinek, and Bennie Martinek, Rossville; four sisters: Mrs. Agnes Kozak, Osage City; Mrs. Mae Brown, Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Helen Macha, Council Grove, and Mrs. Stella Kovar, Rossville; eleven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Mr. Martinek’s grandsons, Daniel Martinek, Mark Martinek, Kenneth Sevegales, Craig Martinek, Paul Johnson, and Steven Loeffer.




MARTINEK SERVICES

Services for Steven A. Martinek, 74, 147 Story, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Name Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.

Mr. Martinek will lie in state from 2 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday at Brennan Funeral Home, where a parish rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

He was found dead at his home Tuesday.
