McClain
Thornton McClain, 69, Rossville, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1987, at a Topeka hospital.
Mr. McClain worked in a grocery store and farmed in the Rossville area.
He was born April 27, 1918, at West Liberty, Ky., the son of Roy and Eva Trimble McClain. He lived in Indiana a few years before he moved with his family to Kansas in 1922. He graduated from Rossville High School and attended Emporia State Teachers College.
Mr. McClain was a member and former president of the Lions Club and member of Hesperian Lodge No. 111, AF&AM, both at Rossville, and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge No. 555 at Topeka.
He also served on the Rossville City Council and was active with the Cub Scouts for four years.
He was married to Winifred Emert Aug. 21, 1947, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at Rossville. She survives.
Other survivors include a daughter, Vickie Sue McClain, Kansas City, Mo.; a son, Larry Morris McClain, Rossville; four sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Prevele, Mesa, Ariz., Mrs. Lctha Reser, Rossville, Mrs. Mazee Gooderl, Hoyt, and Mrs. Barbara Casto, Ukiah, Calif.; and a brother, Luther McClain, Rossville.
Services were to be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, 1987, at Verschelden Funeral Home in St. Marys. Masonic graveside services were to be conducted by Hesperian Lodge No. 111, AF&AM, in Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
