Russell G. Minnis
ROSSVILLE - Russell G. Minnis, 76, a doctor of veterinarian medicine, Rossville, died Sunday, May 4, 1997, at a Topeka hospital.
He served as a meat inspector during World War II in Chicago.
He was a veterinarian and a federal meat inspector for the USDA.
He was born April 25, 1921, at Albion, Idaho, the son of John R. and Majoria Bowers McArthur Minis. He moved to Manhattan at an early age and graduated from Manhattan High School and Kansas State College of Veterinarian Medicine.
He served on the Rossville City Council and attended the Presbyterian Church. He was a past member of the Kiwanis Club and the Missouri Veterinary Association.
He married Henrietta Ferguson on April 9, 1944, at Manhattan. She died June 4, 1981. He married Winifred McClain on April 1, 1989, at Rossville. She survives.
Other survives include one daughter, Roberta Bennett, Wichita; one step-daughter, Vickie McClain, Overland Park; two sons, Raymond Minnis, Junction City, and Richard Minnis, Omaha, Neb.; one stepson, Larry McClain, Rossville; and six grandchildren.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Piper-Verschelden Funeral Home, St. Marys. Burial will be in the Rossville Cemetery. He will lie in state after 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where there will be family visitation from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville Community Library and sent in care of the funeral home.
