REZAC
Katherine L. “Katie” Rezac, 89, Osage City, passed away Friday, Dec. 2,2011, at the Midland Hospice House, Topeka.
She was born March 27, 1922, at Delia, the daughter of John J. and Mary E. Stallman Wehner. She was raised in the Delia community and graduated from Delia High School in 1940.
She had lived in California and New York before moving to St. Marys in 1945. Mrs. Rezac had worked for the St. Marys Farmers Union Co-op for 16 years before opening Katie’s Korner on July 1, 1977. She operated this business until 1981. She moved to Osage City in 1994. Katie had been a member of the American Legion Auxiliary since 1962.
On Nov. 26,1941, she was united in marriage to Raymond R. Rezac. He preceded her in death on May 8,1972.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, James E. Rezac, sisters, Irene Wilke and Florence Simecka and a brother Clarence Wehner.
Survivors include a son, William “Bill” (Peggy) Rezac, Osage City; a daughter, Peggy Dittberner, Mesa, Ariz.; three brothers. John (Esther) Wehner, Rossville, Melvin (Nina) Wehner, Eudora and Francis (Mary C.) Wehner, Colorado, Springs, Colo.; her granddaughter, Sharia (Jamie) Vega; a step grandson, Michael (Cindy) Henderson and two step great-granddaughters, Katelyn and Hailey Henderson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 8, at Piper Funeral Home, St. Marys.
Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, St. Marys.
Mrs. Rezac will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Society or Robert Heizer Post 198 American Legion Auxiliary in Osage City and sent in care of Piper Funeral Home, 714 Maple, St. Marys, KS 66536.
