Gertrude M. Stiles Skidmore
ROSSVILLE- Gertrude M. Stiles Skidmore, 93, died Saturday,
September 6,2008 at the Rossville Valley Manor.

She was born February 28,1915 at Guide Rock, NE, the daughter of Frank C. and Flora Meeks Fox. She grew up in the Bird City, KS, community where she attended school. Mrs. Skidmore had lived in the Willard, Hoyt and Rossville communities most of her adult life.

She was a homemaker and mother. She had worked as an operator for William’s Telephone Company and retired as a nurse’s aide from St. Francis Hospital. Mrs. Skidmore was a member of the Rossville United Methodist Church, Rossville Senior Center, Rossville Rollers, Countryside Club and the Birthday Club.

She was united in marriage to Howard Norris Stiles in 1939. He preceded her in death on August 8, 1964. She later married J.B. “Buck” Skidmore, he died in 1987. Mrs. Skidmore was also pre-ceded in death by a step-son Monte Lee Stiles on June 27, 2005, her son, Howard Dale Stiles on August 28, 2005, a brother, Roy Fox, two grandchildren, Kenneth Mark Stiles in 1962 and Linda Stiles Cortes in 1976.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Miller, Las Vegas, Marie Owens and Jean (Patrick) Schneider all of Rossville; a sister, Velma Darby in Maryland; a sister-in-law, Helen Fox in Colorado; a step daughter, Polly Stoner in Texas; a daughter-in-law, Toni Stiles, Rossville; five grandsons; five great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at the Rossville United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Rossville Cemetery. Mrs. Skidmore will lie in state after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9th at the Rossville United Methodist Church where there will be a family visitation from 6:00 until 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rossville United Methodist Church or the Rossville Senior Center and sent in care of Piper Funeral Chapel, P.O.
